Sabarmati: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has declared its three more general hospitals VS General Hospital, LG General Hospital and Shardaben Hospital (barring Gynaec emergency department) as Covid hospitals. With this, all beds (barring Gynaec emergency department in Shardaben Hospital) will be utilized for only Covid positive patients. The decision according to Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Health and Hospital) has been taken in view of steady increase in the number of patients of Covid19. AMC has already declared its premier SVP hospital (1000 beds) as Covid hospital. AMC has also declared number of private hospitals as designated covid hospitals. With this, treatment of other diseases may affect, as even State government run hospitals in the city, such as Civil hospital, kidney hospital, cancer hospital and UN Mehta heart hospital are significantly occupied with patients on Covid beds. To address spiraling number of Covid patients, the State government has decided to convert Gujarat University Convention Hall at GMDC ground into a 900-bed full fledged Covid hospital.
