Gandhinagar: Insiders from the main opposition Congress party inform that the party has decided to field Jennyben Thumar, daughter of former MP Virji Thumar from Amreli seat as Lok Sabha candidate. BJP has yet not declared its candidate for Amreli seat.

The party insiders also inform that JP Maraviya will be fielded from Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat against BJP candidate and incumbent MP Poonamben Madam. The party hopes for whole chunk of Muslim votes and division in Hindu votes as Maraviya is Patidar by caste, while Poonamben is Aahir. Maraviya is from Nikava village of Kalavad taluka. He is leader of opposition in Jamnagar district panchayat. He is also Kalavad marketing yard’s Director.

It was further informed that former union minister and current MLA Tushar Chaudhary will be fielded from Sabarkantha Lok Sabha seat in North Gujarat. Chaudhary is tribal while BJP has fielded a Kshatriya candidate Bhikhaji Thakor.

Party has also decided to field former leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani on Rajkot seat against BJP candidate and union minister Parshottam Rupala. Both Dhanani and Rupala are from Amreli. Dhanani had defeated Rupala in the past in the State assembly election. While Dhanani is Leuva Patel, Rupala is Kadva Patel. Congress hopes for divisions of votes on this line.

The present leader of opposition and Anklaw MLA, Amit Chavda will be fielded from Anand Lok Sabha seat in Central Gujarat by Congress party as his relative and former union minister Bharatsinh Solanki has refused to contest election on this seat.

The party has finally achieved success in finding a candidate for Surat seat. Nilesh Kumbhani who contested civic and assembly elections unsuccessfully in the past is selected as party candidate here.

It is also learnt that party has decided to field Kalubhai Dabhi from Kheda seat. Kalubhai lost assembly poll on Kapadvanj seat in 2022 by a margin of over 30,000 votes. He would contest against BJP candidate and union minister Devusinh Chauhan.
