AMC allows councillors to allocate funds for percolating, khambati wells
September 27, 2024
Ahmedabad: In a major step towards water conservation, the standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has authorized councillors to allocate funds from their individual budgets for constructing percolating and khambati wells.
“The initiative aims to tackle challenges and enhance the city’s stormwater management infrastructure,” stated a senior AMC official.
Late last year, the AMC identified potential sites for these percolation wells, including locations at Kalyan Jewellers in Ambawadi, Madhumati Awas in Kathwada, Everest Crossroads in Saraspur, near Pritampura School 3, Damani Bridge in Maninagar, near Radhakrishna Temple in Shahwadi, near Gujarati Schools 1 and 2 in Shahwadi, as well as Rajpath Club near Mahila Lake and the municipal party plot in Anandnagar.
Despite having a stormwater drainage system spanning 938 km, the city’s surface water bodies capture only 2.48% of rainwater, leading to severe waterlogging in areas such as Jodhpur and Sindhu Bhavan Road. DeshGujarat
