Rajkot Airport to operate round the clock amid Pakistan airspace closure

Rajkot: Rajkot International Airport has been directed to remain operational round the clock following Pakistan’s announcement to shut its airspace to Indian flights in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. To manage the disruption, Rajkot International Airport has been designated as a stopover location and will remain operational 24/7 to facilitate emergency landings.

According to Gopal Anadkat, a member of the Rajkot Airport Advisory Committee, the airport will stay open 24/7 to accommodate emergency landings of international flights from Middle Eastern destinations such as Dubai, Oman, Sharjah, and Doha. These landings would be permitted only in cases of fuel shortages or medical emergencies.

This arrangement to use Rajkot Airport for international flights will be in effect for two months and will primarily support Air India and IndiGo flights to and from the Middle East. To handle the increased activity, the airport has requested an additional 50 personnel from the western region. Flights between India and the Middle East, which typically rely on Lahore and Karachi routes, will now have to take longer paths due to Pakistan’s airspace closure—implemented in response to Indian actions following the Pahalgam terror attack.
