April 28, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government today announced that more than 86,000 children have been admitted to private schools in the first round under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2025-26.
According to the provisions of Section 12.1(C) of the RTE Act-2009, the state made significant efforts to ensure that 25% of children from weaker and disadvantaged sections were admitted to Standard-1 in unaided private primary schools. These efforts led to the submission of 2,38,916 applications online. After verification at the district level, 1,75,685 applications were approved, a press release stated.
However, 13,761 applications were rejected due to incomplete documents, and 49,470 applications were canceled by parents. A total of 93,860 seats were available under RTE in 9,741 unaided primary schools across the state. Out of these, 86,274 students were allotted seats in the first round, based on preferences and school rules within a 6 km radius.
At the end of the first round, 7,586 seats remained vacant due to a lack of preference from applicants. Parents of the allotted students have been informed via SMS and are requested to visit their respective schools by May 8, 2025, to complete the admission process.
For the second round, unallotted applicants will have the opportunity to re-select schools before the process proceeds according to the established rules. This aims to maximize the number of admissions for children from weaker and disadvantaged groups. DeshGujarat
