AMC frees 1.5 lakh sq. m. of land, removes 4,000 illegal units at Chandola Lake
April 30, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in an official statement today, said that it has cleared large-scale encroachments from a government-owned plot near Chandola Lake in the South Zone’s Danilimda area. The land, located at Revenue Survey No. 353/A and reserved as Final Plot No. 1 (area: 1,09,6127 sq.m.) under TP Scheme No. 37 (Danilimda), had long been encroached upon and was a hub for illegal activities, according to police.
AMC, with the assistance of police personnel and machinery, launched a major eviction drive to curb such activities and reclaim the land on Tuesday morning. During the operation, around 4,000 unauthorized structures, approximately 1,000 permanent and 3,000 temporary houses and huts, were demolished. Within two days, the civic body freed about 1.5 lakh sq.m. of government land.
Talking about the demolition action earlier, MoS Home Harsh Sanghavi said, “We have demolished the area where four illegal Bangladeshi nationals, affiliated with Al-Qaeda, were arrested. We have demolished the area where large drug cartels were nabbed, and we have demolished the area where young Muslim girls were being pushed into prostitution by illegal Bangladeshis. We have demolished the area where a large number of illegal Bangladeshis were arrested. In the interest of all citizens, every single inch of state government land will be cleared. This historic work has been carried out by Ahmedabad Police, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and district administration, showing full humanitarian aspects. The land around the lake, which is over 1.25 lakh square meters, encroached upon by Bangladeshis, has been cleared, and the work is still underway. Full details will be released later this evening about the operation.” DeshGujarat
