Heavy Vehicle Ban on SG Highway to be extended till 2 am during Navratri

Ahmedabad: To ensure smooth traffic flow during Navratri festivities, the entry of heavy vehicles on SG Highway will be restricted until 2 am every night.

The decision comes as three clubs, more than 10 party plots, and several farmhouses along the highway are set to host Garba events, which are expected to draw large crowds.

Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic) N.N. Chaudhary said that while heavy vehicles are normally barred from SG Highway until 11 pm, the restriction will be extended until 2 am for the duration of Navratri. On regular days, the ban is in effect until 8 am.

The 5.5 km stretch between Karnavati Club Crossroads and Zydus Hospital Crossroads is likely to witness heavy congestion during the festival. Compounding the situation, flyover construction work is ongoing on the road leading from Karnavati Club to Sarkhej, leaving one side of the road closed. Simultaneously, excavation work is also underway on the opposite side, increasing the likelihood of traffic jams, particularly near Karnavati Club.

To manage the situation, two DCPs, two ACPs, seven PSIs, and 500 police personnel will be deployed along this stretch for traffic regulation. DeshGujarat
