Gujarat HC Upholds Road Widening Plan Near Motera Stadium; Junks Plea Against Eviction
September 29, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has dismissed a petition by 49 residents of Acher village challenging eviction notices issued by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for a road widening project leading to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.
The AMC had served eviction notices in April, stating that houses in Subhash Nagar, declared a slum, were obstructing planned 24.38-metre and 12.18-metre roads under the town planning (TP) scheme.
The residents argued they were protected under the Gujarat Slum Areas Act and could not be evicted without following due legal procedure. The court, however, upheld the AMC’s notices, noting that the TP scheme was final and the eviction was a procedural requirement.
The petitioners further contended that Final Plot 486 was earmarked for slum upgradation. In response, the government pleader assured the court that the slum upgradation reservation would remain intact, except where it overlapped with the planned roads. Beyond the road alignment, the slum reservation would be preserved. Meanwhile, another similar petition from affected residents is still pending in the High Court. DeshGujarat
