Parts of under-construction bridge collapse in Valsad; R&B issues notice to contractor
December 12, 2025
Valsad: The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Sub-Division, Valsad, has sought an explanation from contractor Royal Infra Engineering Pvt. Ltd. after staging collapsed during construction work on the high-level bridge on the Valsad–Gundlav–Khergam Road. The Executive Engineer stated that five workers sustained injuries in the incident and are receiving treatment in the hospital. No fatalities were reported.
According to officials, three girders between pier numbers P-1 and P-2 were under shuttering as part of the superstructure work. The site engineer had issued instructions to adjust the horizontal line level of the girders. On the morning of December 12, 2025, workers were levelling a girder using a jack under the supervision of the contractor’s site engineer when the jack was raised higher than required, causing the girder to slip. The staging collapsed as a result, injuring five workers, who were immediately taken to the hospital.
The contractor has insurance coverage for both the bridge and its labour force, and compensation has been provided—₹2 lakh to the seriously injured worker and ₹1 lakh each to those with minor injuries. The R&B Department has attributed the incident to human error and has issued a notice to the contractor seeking a detailed explanation. Officials have also directed the contractor to implement strict preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The department stated that it remains committed to maintaining quality standards in construction works and will take additional precautions to ensure such accidents do not recur. DeshGujarat
