All AMTS & BRTS Buses in Ahmedabad to Be EVs: Report
December 27, 2025
Gandhinagar: As part of a major push to modernize Ahmedabad ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games (CWG) and other international sporting events, the Gujarat government plans to convert all buses under the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) and the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) to electric vehicles (EVs), a newspaper reported.
Officials said the initiative will also be highlighted during Ahmedabad’s bid for the 2036 Olympic Games. Sources told TOI that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will procure only EV buses going forward, phasing out all fossil fuel-powered buses over the next two years to ensure green mobility in public transport.
City authorities and the state government will also engage stakeholders to encourage the replacement of private buses and cars with electric vehicles, a move expected to significantly improve air quality. The state is preparing policy measures to incentivize EV adoption ahead of CWG 2030. DeshGujarat
