Nirma plans 555-room five-star hotel on SG Highway in Ahmedabad

Mumbai: Ahmedabad-based Nirma Group is set to diversify into the hospitality sector, according to a media report. The ₹12,207-crore conglomerate, with businesses spanning detergents, soaps, soda ash, caustic soda, cement and healthcare, has sought environmental clearance for a premium five-star hotel project.

The proposed development is a 555-room luxury hotel planned along the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar (SG) Highway, one of Ahmedabad’s fastest-growing commercial corridors. As per the ET report, Nirma is in discussions with global hotel operators including Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), Hyatt Hotels and Marriott International, though a final agreement is yet to be concluded.

The hotel is expected to be operational ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, enabling it to capitalise on rising demand for high-end accommodation driven by major events and sustained corporate travel. The project is planned on an 8,000 sq metre plot with a built-up area of over 85,000 sq metres and will comprise a ground-plus-27-floor structure.

Industry executives said the proposed entry comes as Ahmedabad’s hospitality market undergoes a structural shift. Over the past 18 to 24 months, the city has emerged as one of western India’s more active hotel investment destinations, supported by industrial expansion and growing institutional demand. DeshGujarat
