Surat: A sarus crane was killed after getting entangled in a Chinese kite string in Surat city. The world’s tallest flying bird died on Tuesday near Kharwasa in Bonand village on the city outskirts. According to local residents, the crane suddenly fell to the ground on Monday evening. Villagers immediately rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts to prevent stray dogs from attacking the injured bird.
Laxman Chaudhary, who alerted the rescue personnel, said he took the bird to his field with the help of his staff and removed the kite string. The crane had suffered a deep cut to a wing vein, resulting in heavy bleeding. Darshan Desai of the Prayas team said the injury was severe, with a major blood vessel damaged. Despite sustained rescue efforts, the bird could not be saved due to excessive blood loss.
The incident once again highlights the growing danger posed by Chinese kite string to birds and human life, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement and greater public awareness.
In a similar incident in Valsad, an owl was also injured after getting entangled in kite string but was saved due to timely intervention by rescue teams. DeshGujarat
