In pictures: What’s going on at Sabarmati river front?

Amdavad’s first national book fair will be organized during 1-7 May at Sabarmati river front. The book fair, being organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will be inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi in the morning of 1st of May. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken a decision to hold such book fair every year during 1-7 May from this year.

An AC dome has been set up covering the area of 7900 square meter. There will be 177 stalls of books, 20 stalls of food, 20 stalls of information and assistance. Moreover there will be a temporary auditorium with capacity to accommodate 1000 persons. Another smaller auditorium will have 160 seats.

On 1st of May, children activities like story writing, book review, cartoon, poster design, speeches of readers, acting etc will be held between 2-4 pm in smaller hall. While during 4.30-6.30 pm a speeches will be delivered on contemporary Gujarati language and literature, translation of Gujarati work in other languages, translation of other language books in Gujarati, contemporary Gujarati children literature, contemporary world literature etc. There will be a seminar on women’s contribution in Gujarati literature.

Evenings will host cultural programmes. The list includes kavi sammelan on 1st of May, discussion on Umashankar, Krishanal Shridharani, Pannalal Patel, Prahlad Patel and Ravindranath Tagore’s work on 2nd May, Performance of Tagor’s Dakghar play on 7th, Sugam sangit event on 3rd of May, Kavi sammelan on 4 May, folk music and literature based programme on 5 May, Programme on Avinash Vyas’s songs on 6 May and talks on humor, poetry, spiritual and folk literature by authors on 7th of May.
