Water woes!! Avoid visiting Mount Abu this summer

Ahmedabad/Abu, DeshGujarat, 20 April, 2010

Mount Abu, the most favorite place of Gujarati tourists, is unbearable this summer, says Gujarati tourists who recently visited the place.
According to a tourist Yogesh, “We went to Abu to escape terrible heat in the mainland of Gujarat, but couldn’t have a break from hot summer even in Mount Abu, as the temperature was unprecedentedly high there. Normally a gap of temperature between Mount Abu and Abu road is around 12 degree, but this summer it is just 2 degree.”
According to Kiran Chavda, a Gujarati mountaineer based in Mount Abu tourists should avoid coming to Mount Abu this summer for the sack of this hill town. Kiran says, “There are three major sources for water in Mount Abu. One is lower Kodra dam, another is higher Kodra dam and the third is Nakki lack. Presently there is no water left in both Kodra dams. Nakki lack is the only resource left for water supply. Local body supplies water once every fourth day. Many old bore wells are failed. Digging of new bore wells has not yieled satisfactory result. Tankers are needed to be booked in advance and ther rates have gone up. For the sack of Mount Abu the tourists should avoid coming here.”
Camp organizer Rajendrasinh Jadeja agrees to Kiran Chavda’s opinion. He says, “I have cut short my batch size this summer. There should be similar cut in incoming tourist traffic too. However hoteliers are not ready for this. Nakki lake has just two month size of water left. Red flags are tagged inside the lake to prevent boats to reach in shallow water. Within 15 days or so, about two cricket ground size part of Nakki lake would be naked and exposed.”
Meanwhile, hoteliers in Mount Abu have hiked the rates due to water shortage. Tourists complain that they are not provided enough water at hotels. Hoteliers say last time such situation they faced was 1999. But this is even worse.
