An international terminal building of Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel airport was vacated on Wednesday night for some time after bit of chaos among the passengers occurred when they heard about presence of a snake in the building.
On Wednesday night, the staff members on duty at Ahmedabad’s international terminal building spotted a snake inside the airport building. They immediately called Ahmedabad’s Sundarvan volunteers. The airport manager requested Sundarvan volunteers to catch the snake before arrival of two international flights that were scheduled to arrive soon.
When volunteers arrived at the building with their specialized tools to catch the snake, the passengers came to know about snake’s presence inside the building that they were using. The atmosphere became chaotic for some moments as all the passengers wanted to rush outside the building in a moment. The security people came in to action to prevent stampede, after which the building was vacated systematically. The volunteers found two ft long young Indian Cobra snake hiding beneath the immigration table. The table which was fixed on the floor was pulled out using iron sticks and great human efforts, after which the snake was caught and shifted to Sundarvan.
According to Shri Rajendrasinh Jadeja of Sundarvan, receiving numerous snake calls is daily routine in monsoon every year. But the airport was public place and flights were also scheduled to arrive and depart at the same time when snake call was received, therefore the call was very important. Just on Thursday the Sundarvan volunteers attended four snake calls in Bopal, Sola and Sardar Patel ring road areas. On Monday the volunteers caught four little Cobras from a house in Thaltej area of the city.
