Ahmedabad’s Shahpur police station attacked

A group of agitating locals today attacked Ahmedabad’s Muslim majority Shahpur police station with stones.
The attack was so intense, that police had to lob several shells of tear gas for self-protection.
For last few days there have been number of instances when locals in some area suspect someone as member of child abducting gang, and start thrashing him/her in public.
In similar incident, a construction laborer was today suspected as child abductor in Shahpur area of Ahmedabad. The locals thrashed him and didn’t allow police to intervene.
While the locals were not ready to free the person, the police was of opinion that first a person should be questioned properly and then only a legal procedure can be initiated against him.
The crowd of angry local women however was not ready to listen, and started pelting stones over police station.
According to sources, one lady is injured by tear gas shell lobbed by police.
A person detained by police was drunk.
In another event, a beggar suspected as child abductor was thrashed by locals in wall city area of Ahmedabad yesterday evening. Heavily-injured he was later taken to hospital where he died today morning.
