“If there were no bulk pipelines, migration was the only option for people of Saurashtra”

Surendranagar
Speaking at inauguration function of three bulk pipelines at Dhanki in Surendranagar district of Gujarat, Water Supply Minister Vijaybhai Rupani today said that if bulk pipelines were not there, Saurashtra and Kutch had to witness migration of people to other areas, as there’s no permanent reliable source of water in this region.
Rupani described three pipelines inaugurated today as ‘veins of Saurashtra’.
He said, “when then Chief Minister Narendrabhai conceived bulk pipelines for water supply to Saurashtra and Kutch, Congress people were joking that such pipes will only bring air and not water as Veraval, Bhavnagar and Dwarka are situated 500 kms away and Kutch is situated 700 km away. Today the success of bulk pipelines has punctured the air of Congress party’s claims.”
Rupani described Dhanki pumping station as permanent reliable source of water in Saurashtra/Kutch.
He said, “while water travels upto Dhanki through natural gravity, we lift it to 700 meter height here through 35 electric motors that continue to function day and night.”
Rupani said, “SAUNI project conceived by then Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi will fill 115 dams across Saurashtra for the purpose of drinking as well as irrigation water supply. Hard working farmers of Saurashtra will be capable to do wonders, once proper water supply is assured to them.”
