Gujarat govt opens 52 generic drug stores across the state

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani today launched 52 generic stores across Gujarat in a function held at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital campus in presence of Health minister Shri Shankarbhai Chaudhary.500 more such stores are to be added too in ambitious move by the state government under central government’s programme.

The shops are named as Deendayal Pradhanmantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

Background:

 

Needy people will get drug and medical material at 40 to 80% lesser cost through Sanjivani stores.

Sanjivani programme would be administered by the government and HLL Life Care Ltd.

At this stage, Sanjivani stores will be launched at Government hospital campuses.

Generic drug, branded generic drug, over the counter drug, surgical implant(in next phase) and clinic use items will be available at Sanjivani stores.

Quality of drug on sale at Sanjivani will be certified by National Accreditation Board Testing and Calibration Laboratory(NABL).

In first phase, major hospital/organizations in districts will see starting of Sanjivani stores. Such stores will function for 24×7 hours. Initially 1,000 types of drug will be on offer, of which 500 will be in essential drug list(EDL) drug.

In the second phase, 2000 types of drug will be made available. Enough employees and modern electronics equipment are made available to run the stores. In second phase 500 to 1,000 stores are planned. Such stores will also be opened at taluka level. In major cities, more than one stores are planned.

The government has also started G-Dava application which can be downloaded and used for free of cost. It is a search engine for generic drug. A list and details of price of branded drug from renown companies and matching generic drug that are available at affordable price is given in this app. One can enter the name of drug prescribed by doctor and click search button. It provides details of generic drug in matching. The application is for now available only in English language.
