SMC imposes Rs. 5000 fine on baraat for littering firecracker trash on road

Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on a wedding procession (Barat) on Sunday for littering roads with firecrackers in Varacha.
The health department inspector from Varachha A Zone of the civic body found the trash of burnt firecrackers on the Lambe Hanuman road near Umiya temple. After that, he intercepted the Barat and imposed a penalty on the group.
One Ashwin Pandya, a relative of the groom, paid the Rs 5,000 penalty and obtained a receipt for the same.
It is noteworthy that Surat secured the top spot as the cleanest city in the country in the Swachh Survekshan 2023 along with Indore. DeshGujarat
