Ahmedabad: Four senior doctors affiliated with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Medical Education Trust (AMC MET)-run Narendra Modi Medical College have been suspended for ragging junior doctors. The junior doctors experienced mental anguish during these distressing incidents, which included being forced to write prescriptions 700 times and being deprived of food for up to seven days.
A formal complaint lodged on May 16 with Dr. Ashish Patel, the Head of the Department, brought to light the suffering endured by the junior doctors at Narendra Modi Medical College. Upon receiving the complaint, Dr. Patel attempted to address the issue internally by convening a meeting between the senior and junior doctors. However, three days later, the junior doctors reported the matter to the Medical College Dean, Dr. Deepti Shah, as the ragging persisted despite assurances of its cessation.
Dr. Shah called for a meeting of the Medical College Council to address the grave allegations of mental distress and ragging inflicted by the senior doctors upon their junior counterparts. Following deliberations regarding the severity of the ragging methods employed, the four senior doctors—Dr. Vraj Vaghani, Dr. Shivani Patel, Dr. Aneri Nayak, and Dr. Karankumar Parejia—were suspended from their duties.
Dr. Vraj Vaghani has been suspended for two years, Dr. Shivani Patel for one year, and Dr. Karankumar Parejia and Dr. Aneri Nayak have been suspended for 25 days. DeshGujarat
