March 27, 2025
Shahera: A farmer from Nada village in Shahera taluka has been arrested after a raid by the Special Operations Group (SOG) revealed he was cultivating marijuana (Ganja) plants in his field and possessing dried cannabis at his residence.
Acting on a tip-off that Mangalsinh Hirabhai Patel, a resident of Nada village, was growing marijuana in his field and selling dried cannabis from his home, the SOG team conducted a raid. During the raid, they discovered 21 live marijuana plants growing amongst chili, tomato, and eggplant plants in his field. Additionally, 1.970 kilograms of dried cannabis were found inside his house.
The police seized the marijuana and arrested Mangalsinh Patel. They have registered a case against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Shahera Police Station. The police have also sent the cultivated plants for forensic testing to confirm they are indeed marijuana.
The police are currently investigating where Mangalsinh Patel obtained the seeds to cultivate the marijuana. They are also looking into potential connections to other individuals involved in the illegal cultivation and sale of cannabis.
This is not the first instance of farmers being arrested for cultivating marijuana in the district. Previously, police have arrested farmers from Dalwada, Khojalwasa, and other villages in the district for similar offenses. This indicates a potential trend of marijuana cultivation in the region.
