Indian Nursing Council Revokes National Recognition for Central and North Gujarat based Nursing Institutes
March 27, 2025
New Delhi – The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has issued a withdrawal order, effectively limiting the national recognition of qualifications obtained from Shivam Institute of Nursing, located in Valasan, Anand district, Gujarat. The order, dated March 10, 2025, comes after the institute allegedly refused to allow statutory inspections by INC-appointed inspectors.
The council has stated that – with effect from 26.10.2024, any person obtaining a qualification of ANM, GNM and B.Sc(N) from Shivam Institute of Nursing Valasan situated at Opp. Swaminaryan Vidhyapith, Anand – Sojitra Road,,Valasan, Distt. Anand 388326 Gujarat shall be entitled to be registered only in the State of Gujarat.
The council has also made similar award for another Nursing institute in North Gujarat and stated that with effect from 26.10.2024, any person obtaining a qualification of GNM and B.Sc(N) from Ananya School of Nursing situated at K.I.R.C Campus, Ahmedabad Mehsana National Highway, Kalol, Distt. Gandhinagar 382721 Gujarat shall be entitled to be registered only in the State of Gujarat.
According to the official notification, F.No. 18-11/15909-INC, the INC, under Section 14 of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, has taken this action due to the institute’s non-compliance with inspection requests.
The institutes of Nursing, which had previously received recognition from the Government of Gujarat and the Gujarat State Nursing Council to run ANM, GNM, and B.Sc(N) courses, faced scrutiny when INC inspectors were denied access to conduct mandatory inspections under Section 13(1) of the Act.
The INC issued a notice, seeking an explanation from the institute for this refusal, providing 15 days for a response. However, the institutes failed to reply. Subsequently, a further notice was sent to the Principal Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Gujarat government, requesting their comments on the matter, but no response was received.
The Executive Committee of the INC, after reviewing the situation, determined that the refusal to allow statutory inspections implied that the institutes were not adhering to the council’s prescribed regulations and syllabus, thus deeming it unsuitable for providing nursing training.
Consequently, the INC, exercising its powers under Section 14(3)(b) of the Act, declared that qualifications obtained from these institures in ANM, GNM, and B.Sc(N) courses will only be valid for registration within the state of Gujarat, and not for national registration.
Lt. Col (Dr.) Sarvjeet Kaur, Secretary of the Indian Nursing Council, signed the withdrawal orders.
