Ahmedabad: Concerns over reckless driving by public transport operators have once again come to the fore in the city after an AMTS bus rammed into multiple vehicles in the Gota area today.
According to preliminary information, the AMTS bus, reportedly travelling at high speed, lost control and crashed into a school van, an auto-rickshaw, and a tempo, causing severe damage to all three vehicles. The school van driver and the auto-rickshaw driver sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The impact of the collision was so forceful that the vehicles were badly damaged. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, clearly showing the bus moving at a reckless speed before crashing into vehicles crossing the road. Fortunately, no children were present inside the school van at the time, averting a major tragedy. As a result of the collision, the tempo overturned, while the front portion of the school van was completely crushed.
Upon receiving information, the A Division traffic police rushed to the spot. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, and traffic police have initiated necessary legal proceedings.

Following the incident, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the bus operator, Chartered Speed Company, and issued a formal notice. The driver has been removed from service, and the civic body has also sought an explanation from the company regarding the incident.
However, the action taken by the Municipal Corporation has drawn criticism from citizens, who have questioned the adequacy of the penalty, particularly in light of the seriousness of the accident and the potential threat posed to schoolchildren and other road users.
Residents pointed out that incidents involving rash driving by AMTS bus drivers have been reported earlier as well. They have demanded stricter monitoring, stronger disciplinary action, and enhanced accountability to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety, enforcement, and oversight of public transport operations in Ahmedabad, with citizens urging authorities to ensure that such accidents do not recur. DeshGujarat
