Farmers Rejoice as Narmada Water Reaches Dwarka District Under SAUNI Scheme

Dwarka: A wave of relief and optimism has spread among farmers in Dwarka district as Narmada water has finally reached several villages under the SAUNI (Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation) Yojana. The water has been supplied through SAUNI Link-1 Package-5, bringing much-needed support to agriculture in the region.

Farmers in villages including Mahadeviya, Sinhan, Vadaliya, Sinhan Ahir, Vinjalpar, Siddhpur and Mowan expressed happiness as Narmada water began flowing into local water bodies. Many described the initiative as “life-giving” for agriculture, especially in a region that often faces water scarcity.

The supply has benefited more than 15 villages in Khambhaliya and Kalyanpur talukas, where rivers, canals, check dams and ponds have started receiving water. Farmers say the development will provide crucial support for irrigation and help sustain agricultural activities in the coming season.

According to officials, the water release process was expedited after representations by MLA Mulubhai Bera and local leaders to the Irrigation Department.

The Executive Engineer of the Und Water Irrigation Department, Jamnagar, said that Narmada water was first transported from Aji-3 dam to Und-1 dam, then pumped to the Pipertoda pump house, and finally conveyed through pumping stations to Vinjalpar, from where it was distributed to surrounding areas.

During the entire operation, around 230 MCFT of water has been released in Dwarka district, enabling the filling of nearly 60 check dams and ponds so far.

Officials added that work to fill the remaining check dams and ponds is still underway.

Farmers believe the influx of Narmada water will recharge groundwater levels, support livestock and ensure adequate water availability for the upcoming farming season, bringing renewed hope to rural communities across the district. DeshGujarat
