Gujarat Caps Commercial LPG Use at 20% in Non-PNG Areas to Ensure Smooth Supply

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has taken several measures to ensure smooth distribution of LPG across the state and to prevent any shortage of cooking fuel. According to an official press note, sufficient stock of PNG and LPG is available in the state, and supply arrangements are functioning normally.

The note stated that an adequate quantity of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is available for domestic as well as commercial use. From March 1, 2026 till date, a total of 3,504 PNG connections have been provided in the state.

The government clarified that there is sufficient stock of domestic LPG cylinders, and refills are being supplied without any difficulty. Buffer stock of LPG is also being maintained to meet demand.

Cap on commercial LPG use where PNG network not available

In places where there is no PNG network in the state, it has been instructed to allocate LPG refills within the limit of 20% of commercial LPG, as follows:

• Hospitals – 100% (Essential)

• Educational institutes – 100% (Essential)

• Pharmaceutical industry – 70% (Essential)

• Dairy industry – 70% (Essential)

• Seed processing industry – 70% (Essential)

• Airline / Railway canteens – 70% (Essential)

• Fisheries industry – 10%

• Restaurants / Dhabas – 10% (Semi-essential)

• Hotels – 10% (Semi-essential)

• Corporate canteens – 10% (Semi-essential)

• Industrial canteens – 10% (Semi-essential)

• Corporate guest houses – 10% (Semi-essential)

• Food processing units – 10% (Semi-essential)

Apart from hospitals and educational institutions, LPG allocation will also continue for registered old-age homes, orphanages, and similar welfare institutions.

Religious institutions that have been providing regular meals for at least one year will be allowed LPG allocation up to 10% of their previous six-month consumption, subject to availability.

District supply committees will decide the allocation of commercial LPG within a maximum limit of 20%, based on requirement and stock position.

Priority to shift LPG users to PNG

The government has given priority to shifting LPG users to PNG wherever the network is available. Consumers who have taken PNG connections have been instructed to surrender their LPG connections, as both cannot be retained simultaneously.

Kerosene allocation for rural areas

As an alternative fuel in rural areas, the Central Government has allocated 1,452 KL of kerosene to Gujarat. Out of this, each district has been allotted about 35 KL (around 35,000 litres).

From this stock:
– Up to 5 litres per family
– Up to 25 litres per institution can be distributed as per requirement.

Monitoring at gas agencies

To ensure fair distribution, one revenue official and one police personnel have been deployed at gas agencies across the state for strict monitoring.

Since March 5, 2026, district-level teams have conducted 112 inspections, while state-level teams have carried out 17 inspections, and action is being taken wherever irregularities are found.
