March 20, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday trapped a Class-1 officer while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh in his office. The accused, Upendrakumar Krantilal Sutaria, is serving as In-charge Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Tax Collector at the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation.
According to the ACB, the complainant in the case is engaged in the business of buying and selling vehicles through an authorised vehicle dealership. The complainant had sold a vehicle in which a discrepancy arose regarding the payment of vehicle tax in the municipal corporation. In return for not filing a complaint against the complainant, not cancelling the licence of the complainant’s agency, and not initiating legal action, the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹1,00,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Gandhinagar unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, following which ACB officials laid a trap based on the complaint.
During the trap, the accused allegedly accepted ₹1,00,000 from the complainant in his office at the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. ACB officials then caught him red-handed and recovered the entire bribe amount from his possession.
The ACB has registered a corruption case against the accused, and further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
