AMTS Plans Modern Bus Ports, Multimodal Hubs at 8 Locations in Ahmedabad
March 20, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) has initiated plans to develop modern bus ports and multimodal transport hubs across the city in a move aimed at overhauling urban public transport infrastructure. The authority has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint a consultant for preparing feasibility studies and managing the development of the projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
As per the tender document, the proposed facilities will integrate multiple modes of transport, including AMTS, BRTS, GSRTC and Metro services, to provide seamless connectivity and improve passenger convenience. The project is intended to modernise existing bus terminals, reduce travel time and strengthen last-mile connectivity in different parts of Ahmedabad.
Under the plan, new bus ports will be developed with upgraded waiting areas, ticketing systems, passenger amenities and commercial spaces, while multimodal transport hubs (MMTHs) will function as interchange points allowing smooth transfer between city buses, regional buses and the Metro network.
AMTS has identified eight locations for the proposed projects. Bus ports are planned at Amiyapur, Kanbha-Bhuvaldi, Dholera Expressway-Bakrol and Jetalpur, while multimodal hubs are proposed at Acher, Hanspura, Akhbarnagar and Memnagar, covering key transport corridors of the city.
According to the tender document, the selected consultant will carry out techno-economic feasibility studies, demand assessment, conceptual planning and financial modelling for the projects. The scope also includes preparing bid documents, marketing the projects to private developers and assisting the civic body in selecting developers under the PPP framework.
The feasibility study will examine passenger demand, bus operations, land use potential and the possibility of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), which may allow commercial, office and hospitality spaces to be developed along with the transport hubs to generate revenue.
The consultant will also prepare detailed financial models, assess project viability, evaluate the need for viability gap funding and design risk-management plans related to construction, demand and operations. Environmental and social impact assessments will also be part of the study.
As per the schedule announced by AMTS, the RFP process began on March 10, 2026. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled to be held at the AMTS office in Jamalpur on March 20, while the last date for submission of bids is April 13. Technical bids are expected to be opened on April 15.
The project marks a significant step towards developing world-class urban transport infrastructure in Ahmedabad and will help create an integrated, efficient and passenger-friendly transit system in the coming years. DeshGujarat
