Surat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Gujarat and the Union Territory of Daman and Diu on Friday, where he is inaugurating, dedicating and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹21,700 crore.
The Prime Minister has reached Hazira in Surat district and is currently reviewing ongoing industrial operations and major infrastructure projects. Later in the afternoon, he is scheduled to inaugurate, dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone for projects worth around ₹18,800 crore in Surat. He will also address a public gathering.
The projects being launched in Surat span the road, power, healthcare and industrial sectors. Among the key initiatives, Modi will dedicate Packages VI and VII of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, aimed at improving high-speed connectivity, logistics efficiency and economic integration between Gujarat and Maharashtra.
He will also lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of key stretches of National Highway-56, a project expected to enhance connectivity in tribal regions and improve access to the Statue of Unity.
In the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a 220-bed Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Surat. The facility is equipped with modern healthcare services, a central laboratory and round-the-clock emergency and trauma care facilities.
Several power and industrial infrastructure projects are also being launched during the event. These include expansion of Gujarat’s inter-state transmission network to strengthen power evacuation capacity, power distribution upgrades under the Revamped Reforms-Based Distribution Sector Scheme in Valsad, advanced effluent treatment and disposal systems at the Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) and Sarigam GIDC, as well as essential utility infrastructure at the Jambusar Bulk Drug Park.
Following the Surat programme, the Prime Minister will travel to Daman, where he will inaugurate the new terminal building of NAMO Airport and dedicate NAMO Hospital to the nation. He will later launch and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹2,970 crore in Daman and also lay the foundation stone for four projects worth ₹885 crore for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. He is scheduled to address another public gathering there in the evening.
