PM Modi’s Surat Event to Feature 100% Eco-Friendly, Plastic-Free Decorations

Surat: Surat is set to showcase a new benchmark in sustainable event management as elaborate preparations have been made to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s World Environment Day programme on June 5 is conducted in a completely eco-friendly and plastic-free manner.

According to an official release, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Mission LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment), the administration has banned the use of plastic and thermocol at the event venue and transformed the programme into a large-scale display of environmental awareness and sustainable practices.

The event venue will highlight Surat’s status as India’s cleanest city through bamboo installations, sculptures created from recycled waste materials, and eco-friendly rangolis crafted by tribal artisans. Organisers have replaced conventional flex banners and artificial decorations with hand-painted hoardings and artistic installations made from discarded materials, demonstrating the concept of turning waste into meaningful art.

A major attraction will be the main stage backdrop at the indoor stadium, which has been created entirely from recycled fabrics by faculty members, students, and local artists associated with the Fine Arts College in Surat. More than 5,000 artworks submitted by citizens on the themes of environmental protection and sustainability have also been incorporated into the event décor to encourage public participation.

Officials said the programme is the result of a collaborative effort involving citizens, educational institutions, and creative professionals, showcasing how large public events can be organised with minimal environmental impact while promoting local art and culture.

The design and thematic elements of the event focus on key sustainability goals, including renewable energy, solar power, water conservation, green mobility, and sustainable development. Organisers believe the eco-friendly arrangements will not only complement the Prime Minister’s address but also inspire visitors to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.

With themes such as renewable energy and Mission LiFE at its core, the Surat event aims to serve as a living model of sustainable event management and a benchmark for India’s green future. DeshGujarat
