Hit by unidentified vehicle, a lion cub dies on Somnath – Bhavnagar national highway; Lioness injured by goods-train in Gujarat

Junagadh: Close on heels of the running over of 3 lions in this district of Gujarat in which the eastern spread of Gir forests, the sole abode of Asiatic lions, is situated, another lioness was today injured after getting hit by another goods-train reportedly near Uchaiya in Rajula area.
In another tragic incident a lion cub was also killed on Somnath highway close to Mithapur in Jafrabad taluka of Amreli. It was hit by some unknown vehicle.
This is second death of a lion cub in as many days as another such cub was found dead from a farm in Ingorala village of the district yesterday.
Even as the forest officials try to evade the queries about the incidents, the situation of the around 5 year old lioness injured after getting hit by a goods train close to Pipavav port was not known. ACF Goziya said that he was on leave while the RFO refused to say anything claiming that the senior officials have asked her not to speak.
On December 17, another goods train going from Botad to Pipavav, a famous port in the Amreli district had run over three lions near Borala village in Savarkundala area of the district. Of them was a male aged around 2 years, another male and a female both aged around 1.5 years.
Two days after that incident the forest officials just terminated the services of a tracker.
