New 80-Meter Road to Link Koba-Gandhinagar and SG Highway; Capital Town to Develop Further South
February 06, 2026
Gandhinagar: In a move set to further boost the urban progression of Gandhinagar towards Southern direction, the Municipal Commissioner has announced the development of a massive 80-meter-wide road connecting Bhaijipura to Adalaj. This new infrastructure project is expected to act as a crucial link between the city’s two primary arterial routes: the SG Highway and the traditional Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar road via Koba.
The proposed 8-kilometer-long road will provide a direct corridor from the SG Highway at Adalaj to the Bhaijipura crossing. This alignment is particularly significant for its role in enhancing access to GIFT City and Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU).
Currently, commuters traveling from SG Highway to GIFT City often rely on routes through Kudasan and further to the Shahpur bridge. This new 80-meter-wide thoroughfare—roughly spanning six to eight lanes—will offer an alternative, effectively bridging the distance between the SG Highway and the GIFT City/PDEU hub.
The Municipal Commissioner Vaghela today confirmed during a post-budget briefing that possesion of land for the project has already been completed, for this project. All preliminary preparations at the administrative level have been finalized, with work expected to commence shortly.
The sources indicate that the authorities are aiming for a full completion target by 2026-27. Additionally, other iconic 80-meter road projects in the PDEU and Raysan TP 19 areas are expected to be completed within the next three to four months.
The development of such a significant road is anticipated to trigger a rapid shift in the surrounding areas. While much of the land parcel between Bhaijipura and Adalaj currently consists of open fields, the sources predict that the construction of this wide road will lead to immediate residential and commercial development.
By bringing what was previously a “pocketed area” into the mainstream, the project is expected to make these land parcels highly desirable for new schemes. As the road touches the major circles at Adalaj—which direct traffic toward North Gujarat, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad—it will likely become a cornerstone for the future expansion of South Gandhinagar.
Given that the road is only 8 kilometers in length, authorities believe the work will proceed and conclude quickly once construction begins. DeshGujarat
