Resident Doctors at SVP briefly withdrew from duty; rejoined later
September 17, 2020
Paldi: Resident doctors of various departments in the Amdavad Municipal Corporation run Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) hospital today withdrew from their duty for a brief period. They gathered and made representation over several issues such as arguments with patients regarding their admission in hospital, increasing number of patients, growing cases of Covid-19 infection among doctors, and burden of work. SVP hospital management and senior doctors held discussion with resident doctors and resolved the issues quickly, after which all Resident doctors rejoined duty within half an hour, said SVP hospital in a formal statement today.
In past few days, admission of new patients in SVP has become difficult and at times impossible, as many resident doctors and faculty members have been detected Covid-19 positive in last few days that too from core clinical branches associated with COVID management. It has been very difficult for this prime public hospital of city which enjoys trust of patients, to manage large number of patients in such manpower scarce situation. SVP is major contributor in Sanjeevani scheme and it is also serving with more than 350 teams. This has led to less availability of beds in SVP. Those who come to SVP for admission these days are turned mainly to Civil hospital and also to private hospitals where certain beds are reserved for AMC referred patient. With lower number of cases in particular period of last month, AMC had started de-notifying certain designated Covid hospitals, thanks to which AMC – referred beds in private hospitals are now fewer in availability. There are instances in which nonavailability of even paid Covid beds has been felt in last few days in private hospitals. When offered by AMC, most people show reluctance to get admission in Civil hospital due to trust issues. Covid19 bed availability issue is real and needs quick attention of AMC and the State government. DeshGujarat
