Mercury Soars Across Gujarat; Ahmedabad Sizzles at 41.4°C, Surat Nears 40°C
April 15, 2026
Ahmedabad: Summer heat is intensifying in the city, with the mercury crossing the 41°C mark and continuing to rise. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 41.4°C on April 14, which is 0.8°C above normal. A day earlier, the city had already touched 41.0°C, indicating a steady upward trend in maximum temperatures over consecutive days.
The rising daytime temperatures point to a gradual build-up of heat conditions across both the city and the state. Rajkot emerged as the hottest location in Gujarat, recording a maximum of 42.0°C—2.7°C above normal—followed by Ahmedabad at 41.4°C. Amreli recorded 41.1°C, while Gandhinagar and Vadodara registered 40.8°C and 40.4°C respectively, all above seasonal averages.
Several other parts of the state also experienced elevated temperatures. Surat recorded 39.8°C (2.9°C above normal), while Bhavnagar and Bhuj reported 39.0°C each. Deesa recorded 38.8°C, reinforcing the trend of higher temperatures in inland regions compared to coastal areas.
In contrast, coastal cities such as Dwarka (31.3°C), Porbandar (33.8°C), Veraval (32.0°C), and Okha (33.0°C) recorded relatively lower maximum temperatures due to maritime influence, though some locations still showed slight deviations above normal.
Minimum temperatures also remained on the higher side, with Ahmedabad recording 27.0°C (2.7°C above normal) and Gandhinagar 26.4°C (3.0°C above normal), indicating warmer nights.
No rainfall was recorded across the state. Meanwhile, humidity levels dropped significantly during evening hours in several inland areas, further intensifying heat conditions.
With temperatures continuing to rise and no immediate relief in sight, residents across Gujarat are likely to face persistent heat stress in the coming days. DeshGujarat
