Surat: Acting on specific intelligence, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 2,017 grams of the banned synthetic drug MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, valued at over ₹2 crore, from a Nigerian woman at Surat railway station on Wednesday.
The accused, Emmanuella Gold Ikhanoba, was intercepted while travelling on Train No. 12954, the August Kranti Tejas Rajdhani Express, which she had boarded in Delhi, officials said.
During the search, DRI officers recovered the contraband from her possession. The seized MDMA is estimated to have a market value exceeding ₹2 crore in the illegal drug trade.
Following the seizure, the woman was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Officials said further investigation is underway to identify the intended recipient and final destination of the consignment. Authorities are also verifying the legal status of the accused’s stay in India.
The DRI stated that the operation was carried out based on prior intelligence, enabling officials to intercept the passenger before the narcotics could be distributed. DeshGujarat
