February 21, 2026
Ahmedabad: A violent clash broke out late Friday night near Vorana Roza, under the jurisdiction of the Shaherkotda police station, during a wedding function.
The incident occurred at Vande Mataram Party Plot when members of the Muslim community allegedly objected to songs being played on loudspeakers at high volume during a Hindu wedding celebration.
What began as a verbal argument over the loudspeaker noise soon escalated, with both groups confronting each other. Around 20 persons allegedly resorted to stone-pelting. Two vehicles parked at the venue were vandalised, and their windowpanes were smashed, causing significant damage.
The sudden violence disrupted the wedding celebrations and created an atmosphere of panic. There were also allegations that some individuals brandished swords during the clash.
Upon receiving information, a team from Shaherkotda police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police recorded complaints from both sides and initiated legal proceedings.
So far, seven persons, including one minor, have been detained in connection with the incident. Cases have been registered against members of both groups under sections related to rioting and vandalism. Further investigation is underway.
