April 19, 2026
Dhandhuka: Following the death of Hindu youth Dharmesh Gamara, which triggered unrest and incidents of arson in Dhandhuka, Gujarat Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the violence.
Speaking to the media, Ahmedabad Rural Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat said the situation in the town is now peaceful and fully under control. He added that he had met the victim’s family, who expressed satisfaction with the police response. The family had sought a detailed probe and the appointment of a Special Public Prosecutor, both of which will be recommended after consultations with senior officials and the state government.
The Inspector General (IG) has ordered the formation of an SIT headed by DySP Prakash Prajapati. The team, which includes PI Raghu Karamatiya, PI Karan Vihol, and PSI S.H. Jhala, is working “day and night” to gather evidence and uncover the full details of the crime.
Police have also apprehended the two main accused, identified as Rizwan Maniyar and Samir Amdani. Following their arrest, the suspects were seen being transported by police while appearing injured.
A separate case has been registered against a mob of over 125 unidentified individuals, and police are currently using CCTV footage to identify those involved.
Clarifying the sequence of events, the SP said the incident stemmed from a minor road accident between two bike riders that escalated into a quarrel. One of them allegedly attacked the other with a sharp object, causing a leg injury that led to excessive bleeding and death. He stressed that it was not a clash between two groups and that no stone-pelting took place.
To maintain law and order, police conducted an extensive overnight combing operation involving around 200 personnel, carrying out door-to-door checks. The operation will continue until all suspicious individuals and locations are verified, he said.
The deceased, Dharmesh Gamara, succumbed to injuries sustained during the altercation. His brother, Govindbhai, alleged that the accused stabbed him with a knife and demanded strict action, while also urging people to maintain peace.
Heavy police deployment continues across Dhandhuka to ensure normalcy, and authorities have warned of strict action against anyone attempting to disrupt law and order. DeshGujarat
