Gujarat Bags Three National Awards for Excellence in Organ Donation, Transplantation

Gandhinagar: Gujarat has secured three national awards for excellence in organ donation and transplantation, with the state’s top government hospitals being recognised for their contribution to the field.
The awards were presented at the 16th Indian National Organ Donation Day ceremony held in New Delhi on August 3, 2026, marking National Organ Donation Day.
During the State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday, Minister of State for Health Praful Pansheriya presented the three awards to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and other ministers.
The Cabinet congratulated the Health Department for the achievement and praised its efforts in strengthening organ donation and transplantation services in the state.
The Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad, received the ‘Excellence in Leading Government Hospital in Organ Transplantation’ award for its performance in the field of organ transplantation.
The Ahmedabad Civil Hospital was honoured with the ‘Best Non-Transplant Organ Retrieval Centre (NTORC)’ award for its successful retrieval of organs from deceased donors.
The New Civil Hospital, Surat, received the national ‘Best Brain Stem Death Team’ award for the timely identification of brain stem death, sensitive counselling of relatives and adherence to scientific procedures.
The state government said the three awards reflect Gujarat’s growing contribution to organ donation and transplantation and recognise the efforts of its government hospitals and healthcare teams.
