Gujarat Police to get 500 new high-tech 112 Jan Rakshak vehicles

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Police will add 500 new ‘Janrakshak’ vehicles to its fleet as part of efforts to strengthen emergency response and improve citizen security across the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi will dedicate the new vehicles to the Gujarat Police on August 25. With the addition of the 500 vehicles, the total number of ‘Janrakshak’ vehicles deployed across Gujarat will rise to 1,000.

The expansion comes in view of the state’s growing population, rapid urbanisation and large geographical area. The vehicles will be available for emergency response services 24 hours a day.

The ‘Janrakshak’ project, which was launched 11 months ago, has so far provided more than 11.04 lakh integrated services, including immediate response to over 6.74 lakh police emergency incidents.

The system uses a modern 150-seat call centre, a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and caller-location technology. These measures have helped reduce the average emergency response time in Gujarat from 27 minutes to 10 minutes and 49 seconds. Authorities aim to further reduce the response time with the addition of the new vehicles and technology.

To ensure faster deployment across administrative boundaries, a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will also be implemented. Under the new system, the nearest available Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle will be dispatched to the incident location, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

Multiple emergency services under Dial 112

Under Dial 112, several emergency services, including Police (100), Ambulance (108), Fire (101), Women’s Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098) and Disaster Helpline (1070), have been integrated into a single platform.

The 112 panic button has also recently been integrated into the Ola, Uber, Rapido and Bharat Taxi apps, allowing users to seek emergency assistance through the platform.

Features of new-generation PCR vehicles

The new ‘Janrakshak’ vehicles will be equipped with several features for round-the-clock emergency operations, including:

• Air conditioning and safety grills/protective structures for 24×7 operations.
• Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) and GPS-based vehicle tracking for real-time information.
• Emergency light bars with sirens, Public Address Systems (PAS), fire extinguishers, first-aid kits and searchlight torches.
• Body-worn cameras, helmets, protective gear and dashboard cameras for personnel.
• Each vehicle will have one ASI/Head Constable, two constables and one driver deployed for 24×7 duty.
