No More RTO Visits: Gujarat Vehicle Owners Can Update Mobile Numbers Online
September 05, 2026
Ahmedabad: Vehicle owners across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, will no longer need to visit an RTO office or depend on agents to update the mobile number linked to their vehicle registration documents. The Transport Department and Traffic Police have introduced an online facility through the Parivahan portal, allowing motorists to update their registered mobile number from home.
The facility comes with new updates to the central and state transport system. Motorists can now update their mobile number using their smartphones and also check pending e-memos linked to their vehicle. Fines for traffic violations can also be paid online through the official government portal.
The Transport Department has urged vehicle owners to check whether the mobile number registered with their vehicle is active. If the number has been deactivated or needs to be replaced with a new one, the update can be completed online without visiting an RTO office or approaching a middleman.
The mobile number can be updated through the online services section of the Parivahan portal at parivahan.gov.in. Once the number is updated, motorists can receive e-memo notifications related to traffic violations on time, helping them keep track of pending fines.
Motorists can also check the status of pending challans through the official e-Challan portal at echallan.parivahan.nic.in. The status can be checked using the challan number, vehicle registration (RC) number or driving licence number. If a fine is pending, it can be paid directly online through the government portal.
The department has also cautioned motorists against cyber fraud involving fake traffic challan messages. Scammers have increasingly been sending SMS messages containing bogus links in the name of pending e-memos. Motorists have been advised not to click on suspicious links and to use only the official Parivahan and e-Challan portals for checking or paying traffic fines.
The new facility is expected to make the process more convenient for lakhs of vehicle owners in Gujarat while reducing unnecessary visits to RTO offices and helping motorists manage their e-memos digitally. DeshGujarat
