Gujarat Govt Increases Monthly Travel Allowance for Gram Sevaks

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has increased the monthly travel allowance for Gram Sevaks working under the Agriculture Department from ₹1,850 to ₹2,700, providing additional support for their fieldwork in implementing agricultural schemes across rural areas.

State government spokesperson and Minister Jitu Vaghani said around 2,900 Gram Sevaks are currently working under the Agriculture Department. Each Gram Sevak regularly visits villages across four to five Gram Panchayats in their assigned area, with some covering even more. Considering their field responsibilities, the government has increased their monthly travel allowance by ₹850.

The Minister said Gram Sevaks serve as an important link between the state government and farmers. As the number of landholding farmers in Gujarat continues to grow, Gram Sevaks play a crucial role in ensuring that farmers can access various government schemes and assistance programmes.

He added that their responsibilities have increased significantly over the years. These include conducting digital surveys through mobile applications to estimate crop acreage and production, completing e-KYC under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, surveying agricultural fields and guiding farmers during natural disasters and heavy rainfall, organising Krushi Mahotsavs and agricultural fairs, and mobilising farmers for minimum support price (MSP) procurement and natural farming campaigns.

The Minister said the decision would help Gram Sevaks carry out their field duties more efficiently, ultimately benefiting lakhs of farmers across the state. DeshGujarat
