December 26, 2025
Jamnagar: Police have launched an inquiry into an alleged religious conversion incident reported in the Vadi area of Pipli village in Jamnagar on Christmas night, after workers of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal reached the site on suspicion of such activity.
According to preliminary information, a gathering was organised in the village on December 25, where farm labourers and migrant workers from nearby areas had reportedly been invited for a Christmas programme that included cake-cutting and dinner.
When VHP and Bajrang Dal members arrived at the spot after receiving information about suspected conversion activity, some individuals present at the venue allegedly fled. Two vehicles with Madhya Pradesh registration numbers, suspected to be linked to visiting Christian missionaries, were also reported at the location and are under scrutiny.
Following the alert, local police, along with SOG and LCB teams, reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident. Officials said statements of those present at the gathering are being recorded and further verification is underway.
Police have not confirmed any instance of religious conversion so far and said the matter is being probed to ascertain the facts. Jamnagar in-charge SP Pratibha also visited the site, reviewed the situation, and stated that preliminary inquiry suggests the person hosting the gathering is a Christian farm labourer who had invited others for a Christmas dinner at his residence.
Further details are awaited, and police have urged citizens not to draw conclusions until the inquiry is completed. DeshGujarat
