Major MoUs and Announcements in Semiconductor Sector in Gujarat; Hotayi to Invest ₹500 Crore

Gandhinagar: In a significant boost to India’s electronics and semiconductor ecosystem, the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) witnessed a flurry of agreements and announcements on the first day of the Semicon summit, March 1, 2026. The event highlighted multi-million-crore investments, the launch of key policies, and a strong focus on research and skill development.

Major Industrial Investments and Manufacturing

Leading the day’s investment announcements was Hotayi Industries, which committed between ₹350–₹500 crore to establish a manufacturing facility for memory modules at GIDC Sanand. This was accompanied by two other significant chemical and equipment-related investments:

  • Hyspec Chemicals Private Limited signed an MoU for the production of specialized semiconductor-grade chemicals.
  • Kiansh / GnBS announced investments focused on setting up Gas Abatement Systems, a critical component for sustainable semiconductor manufacturing.

Research, Development, and Infrastructure Hubs

The summit also prioritized long-term innovation with several R&D and institutional announcements:

  • HORIBA announced the establishment of an R&D Centre in Ahmedabad dedicated to advanced materials and semiconductor-grade mass flow meters.
  • CDAC, Bangalore, will expand its footprint in the state by establishing a ChipIN Extension Centre and a Center of Excellence (CoE) in VLSI design.
  • The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) signed an agreement to set up a dedicated campus at ITI Chandkheda, focusing on advanced electronics and semiconductor courses to build a future-ready workforce.

Strategic Partnerships and Global Collaboration

The semiconductor mission saw high-profile collaborations between industry leaders aimed at strengthening the supply chain:

  • Suchi Semicon entered a strategic collaboration with ROHM, while Kaynes Technology partnered with SpectraGaze.
  • In a move to secure the burgeoning ecosystem, the “Project Semicon Shield” was launched by SP-Ahmedabad in collaboration with GIDC and DICDL.
  • The event featured a global perspective with a video address from Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan of Arizona State University, USA.

New Policies and Academic Integration

The state officially launched its STI Policy (Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy) to provide a roadmap for future growth. Furthermore, construction has officially commenced for Project SAMARTH, a collaborative effort with IIT Gandhinagar.

These developments mark a decisive step toward positioning Gujarat as a global semiconductor hub, integrating manufacturing prowess with high-end research and a secure, policy-driven environment.
