BJP Secures Two-Thirds Majority in Kadi Municipality, Wins 28 Seats Unopposed
April 15, 2026
Kadi: Even before polling for the local body elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive lead in the Kadi Municipality, winning a two-thirds majority with a significant number of candidates elected unopposed.
Out of the total 36 seats, BJP candidates have been declared winners unopposed on 28 seats, effectively handing the party control of the civic body ahead of voting. Kadi is the hometown of former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel.
According to Patel, 22 BJP candidates were elected unopposed on the last date of nomination filing as no opposition candidates contested against them. Subsequently, on the final day of withdrawal today, candidates in two more wards withdrew their nominations, taking the total number of uncontested BJP winners to 28.
Patel congratulated the voters of Kadi and party workers, calling the outcome a major political achievement. He said that, to his knowledge, Kadi has become the first municipality in Gujarat where a party has secured more than a two-thirds majority even before polling.
He attributed the outcome to the BJP’s organisational strength, adding that opposition parties and independent candidates withdrew in view of the party’s strong position and in the larger interest of the city’s development.
With 28 seats already decided, polling will now be held in only two wards, Ward 2 and Ward 5, on April 26. A total of eight candidates from the BJP and the Congress are in the fray, setting the stage for a direct contest in these wards. DeshGujarat
