Severe Heat Grips Gujarat; Rajkot Tops at 43.6°C, Ahmedabad Follows at 43.2°C

Ahmedabad: Gujarat continued to reel under intense summer heat, with several cities recording above-normal maximum temperatures, according to a weather report issued by the India Meteorological Department.
The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded in Rajkot at 43.6°C, which was 2.4°C above normal, making it the hottest location on Tuesday (April 28). Close behind was Ahmedabad, which registered 43.2°C, also 1.6°C above normal, indicating persistent heatwave-like conditions in central Gujarat.
Other major cities also reported significantly high temperatures. Gandhinagar recorded 42.8°C (+2.0°C), while Amreli saw 42.9°C (+1.0°C). Deesa and Vadodara (Baroda) also remained above 41°C, pointing to widespread heat across north and central parts of the state.
In the Saurashtra region, Bhavnagar recorded 39.7°C, while coastal centres such as Porbandar (35.1°C) and Dwarka (33.5°C) remained relatively cooler due to maritime influence, though some locations like Dwarka still reported temperatures above normal.
Kutch region stations showed mixed trends, with Bhuj at 40.0°C and Kandla at 39.0°C. Notably, Okha recorded a sharp departure of +4.3°C, indicating unusually high temperatures for the coastal belt.
Among the cooler locations, Veraval (32.4°C) reported the lowest maximum temperature in the state.
Minimum temperatures across Gujarat remained largely near normal, ranging between 24°C and 27°C in most cities. Humidity levels varied significantly, with coastal areas such as Veraval (94% at 0830 IST) and Dwarka (92%) recording high moisture levels, while interior regions like Ahmedabad saw relatively lower humidity at 48%.
