AMC Draft Budget 2026 proposes 200 km of new roads, iconic SG Highway revamp

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in its Draft Budget for the year 2026–27, has placed strong emphasis on improving the city’s ease of movement. As per the draft budget, the civic body plans to develop 200 km of new roads. Furthermore, it will spend around Rs 600 crore on the iconic redevelopment of S.G. Highway.

Under the “Road and Pedestrian Infrastructure” head, AMC has proposed multiple high-value projects aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow, safer commuting, and modern urban mobility across all zones of the city.

One of the major proposals includes precinct development covering an estimated 33.8 km, with an allocation of Rs 865 crore. AMC has also planned the construction of nearly 200 km of new roads equipped with utility duct lines, promoting the concept of dust-free roads, at a cost of Rs 700 crore.

A key connectivity initiative, the North–South Corridor from Nana Chiloda to Sanathal Road (26.6 km), has been earmarked with Rs 660 crore, while the iconic redevelopment of S.G. Highway is set to receive Rs 600 crore.

Additionally, AMC has proposed eight iconic roads and 13 model roads across zones, with a combined allocation of Rs 500 crore.

To enhance pedestrian infrastructure, AMC will implement a new policy and technology-driven approach through a dedicated Pedestrian Cell under the Road Design Cell. Under this initiative, pedestrian-friendly upgrades will be carried out on around 200 km of roads, with an allocation of Rs 50 crore. DeshGujarat

Infrastructure work by AMC is remarkable But…. The traffic and civic sense in Ahmedabad is worst in Asia. Drastic steps required to take otherwise all the money spent on roads will go in vein.
