Gujarat Sizzles as Temperatures Cross 40°C in Several Cities; Ahmedabad, Rajkot Hottest
April 16, 2026
Ahmedabad: Gujarat continued to reel under intense heat conditions as maximum temperatures crossed the 40°C mark in several parts of the state, according to the weather report issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Ahmedabad recorded a scorching 40.7°C, which is 1.3°C above normal, making it one of the hottest cities in the state on Wednesday. Similarly, Rajkot also registered 40.7°C, while Bhuj followed closely at 40.6°C, marking a significant 2°C departure above normal.
Amreli reported a maximum temperature of 40.1°C, staying around normal levels, while Gandhinagar recorded 40.2°C, also above the seasonal average.
Other major cities also experienced elevated temperatures, with Vadodara at 39.8°C (+1.0°C) and Deesa at 39.0°C (normal). Interior regions continued to witness hotter conditions compared to coastal areas.
In contrast, coastal cities remained relatively cooler due to maritime influence. Veraval recorded 30.8°C, Dwarka 31.4°C, and Porbandar 33.1°C, all slightly below or near normal levels.
Humidity levels varied across the state, with morning relative humidity ranging from 58% in Ahmedabad to as high as 87% in Porbandar.
The IMD data suggests that heat conditions are intensifying across inland Gujarat, while coastal regions continue to experience comparatively moderate temperatures. Meteorological trends indicate the persistence of dry weather, raising the likelihood of a further rise in temperatures in the coming days. DeshGujarat
