No Relief from Heat in Gujarat: Ahmedabad, Rajkot Sizzle at 40.9°C

Ahmedabad: Gujarat continues to witness high maximum temperatures, with several cities recording readings close to or above the 40°C mark on April 17.

As per the weather report of the Indian Meteorological Department, among the hottest locations, Ahmedabad and Rajkot topped the chart, both recording a maximum temperature of 40.9°C. Ahmedabad’s temperature was marginally above normal by 0.2°C, while Rajkot registered a higher deviation of 1.5°C.

Gandhinagar also experienced severe heat with a maximum temperature of 40.5°C, followed by Bhuj at 40.4°C and Amreli at 40.3°C, both hovering around normal levels.

Vadodara recorded 39.8°C, slightly above normal by 0.5°C, while Surat reported 38.8°C, showing a notable departure of 2.3°C above normal. Bhavnagar also remained hot at 39.2°C.

Notably, Deesa recorded a sharp deviation, with its maximum temperature at 38.3°C, which is 7.3°C above normal, making it one of the most significantly hotter-than-usual locations.

Coastal regions remained comparatively cooler. Dwarka recorded 31.0°C, Veraval 31.7°C, and Daman 34.4°C, influenced by maritime conditions. Porbandar and Okha also stayed below the 36°C mark.

Humidity levels varied significantly, with morning relative humidity ranging from 41% in Ahmedabad to as high as 90% in Surat. Evening humidity dropped sharply in most inland areas, indicating dry heat conditions.

Overall, the data indicates a strengthening heatwave-like pattern across interior Gujarat, with temperatures expected to remain high in the coming days. DeshGujarat
