SpiceJet to Suspend Mumbai, Delhi Flights from Ahmedabad; Kandla-Mumbai Route Also Hit

Ahmedabad: Low-cost carrier SpiceJet is set to suspend operations on key Gujarat routes, including the Ahmedabad–Mumbai and Ahmedabad–Delhi sectors, while services on the Kandla–Mumbai route have already been halted, raising concerns over the airline’s ongoing financial troubles and shrinking network footprint.

According to schedule updates, SpiceJet has withdrawn multiple Ahmedabad–Mumbai flights and one Ahmedabad–Delhi service from its booking system. The airline has also discontinued operations on the Kandla–Mumbai route. The changes are expected to take effect from late May and early June, impacting passenger connectivity from Gujarat and reducing seat capacity in the market.

Flight SG 194 operating between Ahmedabad and Delhi, scheduled to depart daily at 6:05 am, will no longer be available from May 26. Similarly, several Ahmedabad–Mumbai services, including SG 878, SG 690, SG 695, and SG 1077, have either already been suspended or are set to be withdrawn in phases. Bookings for these flights are no longer available on the airline’s website. The Kandla–Mumbai flight SG 2906, which operated five days a week, has also been withdrawn.

The latest route suspensions come amid SpiceJet’s continuing financial stress. The airline has been facing mounting challenges, including cash flow issues, a shrinking aircraft fleet, and legal disputes with aircraft lessors and former stakeholders.

According to reports, the airline is awaiting financial support under the Centre’s Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS). If SpiceJet receives the reported ₹1,500 crore funding boost, there remains a possibility of restoring operations on suspended sectors.

Passengers who made advance bookings, including group and vacation reservations, are expected to receive full refunds for cancelled services.

The airline had already begun scaling back its Ahmedabad operations in recent months. Earlier, services to Dubai and Sharjah were discontinued and are likely to resume only in August. DeshGujarat
