Tata Electronics Signs Deal With ASML for Dholera Chip Plant in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: India’s semiconductor ambitions received a major boost as Tata Electronics and ASML signed a partnership to support chip manufacturing in India during the visit of Narendra Modi to the Netherlands.

Under the agreement, ASML will provide advanced lithography tools and technology for Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300 mm semiconductor fabrication plant at Dholera, Gujarat. The ₹91,000-crore project is India’s first commercial semiconductor wafer fabrication plant.

ASML, which dominates the critical lithography equipment segment used in advanced chip manufacturing, will help establish and scale operations at the facility. The collaboration will also focus on developing local talent, strengthening supply chains, and building long-term research and development capabilities.

Tata Electronics CEO and MD Randhir Thakur said ASML’s expertise would support timely expansion of the Dholera facility and help create a resilient semiconductor ecosystem. ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet called India’s rapidly growing semiconductor sector a significant opportunity and described the partnership as an important milestone.

The Dholera plant aims to manufacture chips for sectors including automotive, mobile devices and artificial intelligence. Tata has also partnered with Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to access semiconductor technologies ranging from 28nm to 110nm.
