GT vs KKR: Gujarat Titans to Clash with Kolkata Knight Riders at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
April 17, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Titans will aim to register a hat-trick of wins when they face the struggling Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium later today.
Currently placed mid-table, Gujarat will look to break into the top five with a victory. In contrast, Kolkata are yet to open their account this season, having lost all five matches so far, and will be desperate to secure their first win.
Led by Shubman Gill, Gujarat have shown strong form in their last two matches. However, concerns remain over the performance of their power-hitters in the death overs. On the other hand, Kolkata’s vice-captain Rinku Singh has not lived up to expectations so far, while big-ticket overseas signing Cameron Green has also delivered modest performances. With both teams under pressure, the form of key players will be crucial in today’s clash.
Gill–Buttler in sublime form
All eyes will be on Gujarat openers Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, who have been in excellent touch. Gill has struck back-to-back half-centuries in the last four matches and recently crossed the 4,000-run mark in the IPL. Buttler, meanwhile, has amassed 176 runs in his last four games, including two fifties this season.
Prasidh Krishna leads bowling charge
Gujarat pacer Prasidh Krishna has emerged as the standout bowler this season. With 10 wickets in just four matches, he currently leads the race for the Purple Cap in IPL 2026. In the previous match against Lucknow, he returned figures of 4/28 and also picked up three wickets against Punjab.
Gujarat dominate head-to-head
Historically, Gujarat Titans have enjoyed the upper hand over Kolkata Knight Riders. Since their IPL debut in 2022, the two sides have faced each other five times, with Gujarat winning three matches. Kolkata have managed just one win (in 2023), while one match in 2024 was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled.
Gujarat Titans – Key Strengths
Explosive top order: Gill and Buttler’s consistent performances make them a major threat to opposition bowlers.
Lethal pace attack: Prasidh Krishna’s wicket-taking ability in both powerplay and death overs gives Gujarat an edge.
Strong chasing ability: A comfortable seven-wicket win against Lucknow highlights their composure under pressure while chasing targets.
Gujarat Titans – Areas of Concern
Struggles in death overs: Power-hitters like Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan have failed to deliver consistently in the final overs.
Lack of bowling support: While Prasidh Krishna has excelled, other bowlers have not provided adequate support.
Death bowling issues: Gujarat have conceded too many runs in the final overs while defending totals, often making chases tougher. DeshGujarat
